Event: Raffle of Work by Five Local Potters at the Woods Hole Public Library

through November. Drawing December 5, 2012

Five local potters annually celebrate the importance of the Woods Hole Public Library in their lives with a gesture of generosity. For the past eight years they have freely donated their work for a raffle to benefit the Library.

The potters are Ann Newbury, Anne Halpin, Tesssa Morgan, Ron Geering, and Hollis Engley, all loyal supporters and users of the Woods Hole Library. In previous years, the potters have all donated similar items; this year they have each chosen a special piece from their collections. Tessa Morgan has contributed a triptych of tiles with sea animals painted in a rich blue glaze and mounted in her signature weathered board frame. Ron Geering has donated an elaborate mug and saucer with whales rising from the sea, intricately drawn on the sides in his traditional and nationally award-winning red-ware.

Ann Newbury, instigator of this event, has brought in a set of four perfectly matched bowls, dark, almost black, with a warm brick red interior. Her workmanship and devotion to the beauty of practicality shines through these bowls. Anne Halpin has donated a pot perfectly made with a matchng lid elegantly glazed in a lovely blue on the outside and speckled white on the inside. Hollis has contributed one of his rustic, almost masculine pieces.

The pottery will be on view at the Library though the whole month of November while raffle tickets will be sold, $2 each and $ 10 for 6. . On December 1, the raffle moves to the Renaissance Fair in the Woods Hole Community Hall, and the winning raffle tickets will finally be drawn at the Library’s holiday party on Wednesday evening, December 5, from 5:30-7 PM. Winners do not have to be in attendance as long as they have written their name and phone number clearly on their raffle ticket.
