DEEP OCEAN EXPLORATION: TRENCHES: On Saturday, August 24, from 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m., the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution hosts a public event featuring science talks in Redfield Auditorium about the deepest parts of the sea -- the trenches -- and tours on the WHOI dock of the DEEPSEA CHALLENGER and Nereus – the only vehicles currently able to reach the ocean’s greatest depths. The dock opens at 9:30 a.m. for vehicle tours.
