Atlantic Public Media presents a public listening event to celebrate the creation of new audio work by nine students at this spring’s Transom Story Workshop. It will be held from 7 – 9:30 pm on Thursday, May 23rd, at the Community Hall, 68 Water Street, in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Admission is free. Seats fill quickly, so come early.

Executive Director Jay Allison says, “It's always great to see the community turn out for this event. For us locals, this graduation ceremony is like unwrapping presents. The students have found wonderful stories hiding in plain sight on the Cape, Coast and Islands, and we learn about where we live through their experience.”

The students arrived in Woods Hole in late March to learn the craft of audio storytelling. They traveled from Texas, West Virginia, Washington DC, North Carolina, Brooklyn, and Newfoundland, and range in age from their early 20s to late 30s. Their stories are about local people and issues, and it’s likely that some of the subjects will be in the audience. A question and answer period will follow each piece.

"Sometimes, listing all the stories students are producing sounds like a riddle," says Rob Rosenthal, the lead instructor for the Workshops. "Something like: What do a Polish puppeteer, two rookie shepherds, a recovering alcoholic, and a homeless Unitarian congregation have in common? Well, they're all stories students are producing as the Transom Story Workshops this spring. I hope you'll join us to hear this diverse group of stories."

The listening event will precede a brief graduation ceremony and the public is urged to join us in applauding Transom Story Workshop’s 16th graduating class.
