The talk is the first in the 2019-2020 season<https://mbl.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d5338bbd21442d31e1b673fa3&id=fe2543abc1&e=12ac3a1937>, will be held at 7:30 PM in the MBL’s Lillie Auditorium, 7 MBL Street, Woods Hole.

The free series is presented by the Friends of the MBL<https://mbl.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d5338bbd21442d31e1b673fa3&id=d2492756b0&e=12ac3a1937> and offered as a cultural connection between the Marine Biological Laboratory and the Cape Cod community.  Free parking is available in any MBL lot.

Amy Kukulya is a Research Engineer and Project Manager in the Applied Ocean Physics
and Engineering Department at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Instittuion and a recognized authority in development and operations of autonomous underwater systems (AUVs). Kukulya equips underwater robots with cameras and sensors so they can track sharks tagged with transponders. She is the lead technical developer for under-ice oil detection and mapping projects.

Working with underwater robots has brought Kukulya from the Arctic to Antarctica. Her technical skills include configuration and operation of AUV systems, including navigation, imaging capabilities, data processing techniques and troubleshooting electrical systems. She has either led or participated in over 95 oceanographic expeditions to date.

Apart from her technical skills, she is passionate about promoting education/outreach initiatives, and has been named a Wowster by the Massachusetts Governor's office. Kukulya's work has also been featured on several Discovery Channel and PBS productions as well as the Boston Globe, Washington Post and National Geographic Magazine.   She earned her B.S. in Environmental Policy from Rutgers University.
