A native of Long Island, Rick Hodes traveled to Ethiopia in 1985 as a Fulbright professor intending to spend one year at the medical school. He is still in Ethiopia. Over the course of his career, Hodes has worked in refugee camps in Rwanda, Zaire, Tanzania, and Albania, and been the doctor for 70,000 Ethiopian immigrants to Israel. He has forged strong partnerships to bring care to those in need.

Hodes is a CNN Hero, holds five honorary doctorates, and was awarded Mastership by the American College of Physicians.
