The Nantucket Biodiversity Initiative<https://www.nantucketbiodiversity.org/> is a group of nonprofits, government agencies, and businesses on Nantucket Island that seeks to conserve the native biodiversity of Nantucket, Tuckernuck, Muskeget, and surrounding waters through collaborative research, monitoring, and education.

NBI supports biodiversity research with grants to research projects that expand understanding of the unique ecosystems found here. The collective wealth of information and data from NBI, the research it funds, and its partner organizations is a resource available to conservation organizations, government agencies, and the general public involved in decisions that affect Nantucket's environment.

Every other year, NBI hosts a research conference to share the work of partner organizations and grantees with the general public and scientific community.

Thursday, Nov 2: Keynote Presentation: “Indigenous Traditional Ecological Knowledge of Plants”
                  with Dr. Simone Whitecloud; Nantucket Atheneum, 7:00 pm

Friday, Nov 3:   Research Project Presentations and Posters; Nantucket Hotel, 8:30am - 4:30pm
     Post-Conference Social; Lemon Press, 5:00 - 7:00pm

Saturday, Nov 4: Field Workshops
                            Coskata-Coatue Refuge Bird Biodiversity; Great Point, 7:45 - 10:30am
                  Life Along Extreme Ecological Gradients; Nantucket's South Shore, 12:30 - 2:30pm

Sunday, Nov 5: Field Workshop
                           Nantucket’s Sandplain Grasslands; Head of the Plains, Madaket 8:30 - 10:30am

Interested in attending the conference from off-island? The conference is held a walkable half-mile from the ferry terminals. Rideshare/taxi services are available.
Ferry schedules with Hyline Cruises and the Steamship Authority allow for a day trip to attend the Research Conference on Friday, Nov 3, and return to the mainland.
