Respected local illustrator & instructor, Julia Child will give an illustrated history of the field of Biological Illustration, from cave art through the present, including images from the MBLWHOI Library's rare book room. She is a wealth of knowledge regarding historical illustrations and the field in general- and will be bringing several books from her collection to share, along with her slide presentation. Julia was an early member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators and founder of the Science Illustration course at the Children’s School of Science in Woods Hole. She also offers a very popular Biological Illustration class to local adults. Works by Julia and her students are on display in Highfield's Ter Heun room during the span of the main GNSI-NE exhibit. Julia is a certified medical illustrator but specializes in a range of botanical and zoological subjects. She has freelanced for the MBL, the Town of Falmouth, the Woods Hole Historical Museum, Rodale Press and various groups and publishers. Her work has a appeared in books, journals, the well known "Woods Hole Cooks Something Up" and the wonderful marine coloring book, "From Woods Hole Waters" produced by the MBL, written by John Valois and illustrated by Ms. Child.
