Most of them are from urban communities.

The students’ families are expecting to pay for housing and food. The price can be negotiated. In the past people have charged WHSA students $150 per week for a bed with kitchen and laundry privileges. Sometimes the students shop for their own food and cook for themselves (lots of mac-n-cheese), and sometimes they pay a weekly food charge to eat with the host family.

The aquarium programs are all-day programs and we keep the students very busy. The host family does not have to entertain the student in evenings or on weekends (although you are, of course, welcome to share family life with them if you choose to do so). The students are expected to get themselves to the aquarium, so host family needs to be near the trolley or within bike-able distance of Woods Hole.

Please consider hosting a student (or two if you have room) this summer.

Direct any questions to WHSA Curator George Liles (George.liles@noaa.gov or 774-263-8708).
