Known for breathing new life into old traditions, their performances feature vibrant arrangements of reels, jigs and hornpipes as well as haunting ballads and spirited Welsh step dancing.</span><span style="color: black; font-family:

font-size: 12pt;" data-mce-style="color: black; font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; font-size: 12pt;"><br> <br> <span style="background: white;" data-mce-style="background: white;">The band features Angharad Sian Jenkins on fiddle, vocalist and step dancer Bethan Rhiannon on accordion and piano, Sam Humphreys on guitar, Alice French on harp, and Patrick Rimes on fiddle, whistle and pibgorn — a traditional Welsh reed instrument made from a wooden pipe and the horns of a bull. </span><br> <br> <span style="background: white;" data-mce-style="background: white;">Angharad Sian, daughter of poet Nigel Jenkins and harpist Delyth Jenkins, grew up playing violin while absorbing both the poetry and the musical traditions of Wales. Bethan Rhiannon, who sings in both English and Welsh, is a National Clog Dance Champion who learned from her champion father. Sam Humphreys, from Llyn Peninsula in the heart of farming country, played electronic pop and rock music before turning to Calan’s compelling mix of folk and modern styles. Alice French studied classical harp at the University of Wales; she is now developing and examining harp methods used by the Romani Gypsies of the British Isles. Patrick Rimes was junior Celtic Welsh Fiddle Champion for three consecutive years, and also plays the Welsh bagpipes.</span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;

Roman','serif'; font-size: 12pt;">The group started in 2005 when several band members, who had met during a Welsh-Swedish folk music exchange program, started playing in the streets of Cardiff to raise money for their university fees and quickly became a local sensation. Calan’s first performance was at a local folk festival in 2008; since then, they have played at major festivals throughout Wales, England and Scotland. In 2015 they performed at London’s famed Royal Albert Hall alongside Sting and Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel. They have also performed in concert tours of Italy, Austria and Belgium, Canada and the USA.</span><span style="color:
