color:black;background:white" data-mce-style="mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; color: black; background: white;">Sarah McQuaid is a singer-songwriter & guitarist widely known for moving easily between traditions and times – from 16th century lute songs to historic Cuban jazz, from Irish and Appalachian ballads to emotive originals and contemporary pop covers. She is also known for authoring The Irish DADGAD Guitar Book, a popular tutorial on the alternative guitar tuning which she uses exclusively. <span style="mso-fareast-font-family:

At age twelve she began touring the US and Canada with the Chicago Children’s Choir; at eighteen she went to France to study at the University of Strasbourg.

Ms. McQuaid moved to Ireland in 1994 working for the next thirteen years as a music journalist and magazine editor. Her debut album, <span style="border:none windowtext 1.0pt;mso-border-alt:none

In contrast to the first album’s focus on Irish traditional songs and instrumentals, the second was a celebration of old-time Appalachian folk, with creative arrangements and original compositions. Two more albums followed, exploring children’s music inspired by the “Swallows and Amazons” adventure books by Arthur Ransome, and delving into a wide spectrum of personal and emotional themes in song. Her 2015 recording Walking Into White was selected as Album of the Month by the UK publication FolkWords, which went on to nominate it for Best Album from a Female Artist and Album of the Year.

<span style="mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";
color:black;background:white" data-mce-style="mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; color: black; background: white;">Sarah McQuaid has spent the past seven years touring virtually nonstop on both sides of the Atlantic, performing at major festivals throughout the US and Europe and earning critical accolades along the way. She has been dubbed “guitar queen” for her complex and fingerpicking style, and reviewers have praised her voice both for its raw edge and intensity and for its sweetness, which Minor 7<span style="mso-fareast-font-family:
