<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Sierra Cape Cod's "3rd Tuesday Talk" series continues June 17th at 7pm with a critical look at the proposed Cape Cod Canal Pipeline Relocation Project within the context of Sierra Club’s nationwide “<a href="https://coal.sierraclub.org/gas-plants-and-pipelines-map" id="OWAeccac49e-54d7-3c79-cfd1-83a836b8c8bf" class="OWAAutoLink" style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" originalsrc="https://coal.sierraclub.org/gas-plants-and-pipelines-map" data-auth="NotApplicable">Beyond
Gas</a>” campaign and the <a href="https://www.mass.gov/info-details/ma-decarbonization-roadmap" id="OWA9d671a7f-df51-fe50-12e8-cbe03a210cb9" class="OWAAutoLink" style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" originalsrc="https://www.mass.gov/info-details/ma-decarbonization-roadmap" data-auth="NotApplicable">
Massachusetts 2050 Decarbonization Roadmap</a>. This Zoom event is open to all, and time will be reserved for audience Q&A and discussion.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><b>The Cape Cod Canal Pipeline Relocation Project is being advanced by Algonquin Gas Transmission LLC as a necessary precursor to the replacement of the Sagamore and Bourne bridges. As proposed, two existing pipelines attached
to the underside of the bridges would be replaced by a single, much larger pipeline to be installed by drilling under the canal. The new pipeline would be capable of delivering far more fracked-gas fuel onto Cape Cod than today’s infrastructure.</b></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">To date, state and federal environmental filings by Algonquin provide no justification for, or alternatives to, pipeline expansion. Algonquin’s pipeline network is operated by parent company Enbridge, the proponent of
<a href="https://www.sierraclub.org/massachusetts/stop-project-maple" id="OWA35d64670-36b9-ebf3-a458-3699de37075a" class="OWAAutoLink" style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" originalsrc="https://www.sierraclub.org/massachusetts/stop-project-maple" data-auth="NotApplicable">
Project Maple</a>—which would expand pipeline infrastructure into New York and across the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Adding delivery capacity onto Cape Cod is consistent with Enbridge’s strategy of advancing individual pipeline
segments while avoiding comprehensive environmental review of Project Maple, which is
<a href="https://stopprojectmaple.org/" id="OWA29bd0134-ccb3-0efa-eac9-0b0391168ea2" class="OWAAutoLink" style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" originalsrc="https://stopprojectmaple.org/" data-auth="NotApplicable">
opposed by a multi-state coalition of more than 90 environmental organizations and community groups</a>.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><b>On June 17th, featured speakers Vick Mohanka, Samantha Dynowski, and Martha Klein of the Sierra Club will highlight efforts to protect ratepayers, public health, and the climate from expanded gas infrastructure in Massachusetts
and introduce the proposed pipeline relocation project as part of larger efforts to increase New England’s reliance on fracked gas.</b></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><b>Vick Mohanka</b> is director of the Massachusetts Chapter of the Sierra Club (Sierra MA), leading clean energy, transportation, toxics, and conservation campaigns that engage volunteers and activists across the Commonwealth
in furthering climate and economic justice.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><b>Samantha Dynowski </b>is director of Sierra Club’s Connecticut Chapter (Sierra CT), working alongside dedicated volunteers and organizing activists to fight climate change, reduce pollution, protect wildlife, and eliminate
threats to air, water and land.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><b>Martha Klein, R.N.</b> is a public health nurse, “Beyond Gas” lead volunteer for the Sierra CT, and a founding member of
