Sierra Club’s Cape Cod & Islands Group and Massachusetts Chapter will host a virtual talk on November 18th at 7pm featuring
Nathan Raike of RENEW Northeast discussing the essential roles of large-scale battery storage in achieving the Commonwealth’s renewable energy, emission reduction, affordability, and resilience goals. This talk is free and open to all, and will include
time for audience Q&A.

Large battery energy storage systems (BESS) can increase the economic and environmental value of solar and wind power by charging during periods of low electricity demand then delivering the stored renewable energy to the grid
at peak periods, when prices are higher. Grid-scale BESS facilities also can help improve power quality and service reliability in localized areas.
Massachusetts is incentivizing BESS deployment and operation to reduce reliance on expensive and highly polluting fossil-fueled sources of peak power, accommodate growing amounts of renewable energy, and increase resilience.
