Dear Colleagues: 

On November 11 th , 12 th and 13 th , 20 10 , the New England Ocean Science Education Collaborative (NEOSEC) will host its 3 rd Biennial Ocean Science Literacy Summit at the University of New Hampshire, Durham. NEOSEC is a network of institutions across New England working to increase understanding about the vital connections between people and the ocean. This year’s theme, The Ocean Supports a Great Diversity of Life and Ecosystems, will be highlighted through interactive workshops, lectures and a panel discussion.

The program includes: 

· Thursday Evening kick-off Event 

o Film Screening: Oceans (French Version) 

· Friday Summit Day 

o Interactive workshops 

§ From Microbes to Whales: Recording and sharing diversity of ocean Life 

§ From Intertidal to Deep Sea: Monitoring e cosystem diversity 

§ Formal education tools: D iversity of life and ecosystems 

§ Informal education tools: D iversity of life and ecosystems 

o Interactive panel discussion 

§ Keynote address by Paul Snelgrove , “ Biodiversity in the 21st Century: Making Ocean Life Count” 

Dr. Snelgrove is Chair of Census of Marine Life Synthesis and Canada Research Chair in Boreal and Cold Ocean Systems

· Friday Evening Reception and Lecture: An Address by Sylvia Earle 

Dr. Earle is a National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence 

o Hosted by the Gulf of Maine Marine Education Association
