The Woods Hole Public Library will hold its annual Plant Sale on Saturday, May 21 from 9 AM -noon. This event brings out avid gardeners both as donors and buyers. Local gardeners have been busy digging their strong robust perennials in preparation for the sale, which many see as a giant plant swap and peripherally, a benefit for the Library. 

The main feature of the Plant Sale, ever since its beginning in the 1970’s, has been perennials that grow very well in this area. Already promised by local growers are variegated Solomon’s Seal, Astilbe. lots of Hosta, and several uncommon double daylilies. The organizer of this year’s sale, Nan Garrett-Logan promises the unusual wildflower Mayapple, which is grown in several local gardens. She also knows that a selection of painted ferns, primroses, and forget-me-nots in full bloom will be donated. 

Herbs and vegetables will also be included in the sale; among them will be bronze fennel and parsley, tomatoes and peppers which have been raised as an outgrowth of the series of gardening talks held at the Library this Spring. 



If people would like to donate their plants to the sale, there are pots available at the Library available for pick up. Gardeners may drop off their donations in the few days before the sale. 



The plant sale will also mark the last chance to buy tickets for the raffle of the drip irrigation system from dripworks.com. This raffle was started during one of the Library’s gardening talks by Josh Leveque last month. The system is large enough to accommodate up to six 35' garden rows, spaced up to 5' apart. The winning ticket will be drawn near the end of the morning. 



Buyers are warned to come promptly on the Saturday morning of the sale, at 9 AM, since plants leave in a great rush. For more information, call the Library at 508-548-8961.
