Event: Ukulele Lessons

Place: Woods Hole Public Library

Time/Date: Tuesdays, starting at Jan 8, 5:30-6:30

Aficionados of the ukulele will have another chance to learn how to play this little stringed instrument at the Woods Hole Public Library. After a successful first season, Tom Goux is returning for a second series of lessons for beginners in the New Year. To better accommodate more budding instrumentalists, this series of six group lessons will be held on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 6:30, beginning on January 8 and ending February 12. The classes are aimed primarily at adults and there will be an affordable fee.

As any of the people who have completed the first session of beginner’s lessons can tell, ukuleles are easy to play and inspire great fondness from the musicians. These graduates are eagerly awaiting more new converts to the instrument, since plans are underway for another series for more advanced players, which will be held after this next beginners’ series and will combine people from both beginners’ sessions.

The classes will be taught by enthusiastic musician Tom Goux, who is well known and respected in this area from his years as music teacher in the middle schools, founder-director of the Greater Falmouth Mostly All Male Men’s Chorus, Notescape.cod, and the Rum Soaked Crooks. He is also the founding director of the New Bedford Harbor Sea Chantey Chorus. As a further example of the diversity of his musical delights and accomplishments, he now turns his attention to one of the many instruments he has mastered, as he responds to the request from Woods Hole residents to teach them to play this under-rated stringed instrument.
