Sea Education Association/SEA Semester® offering US Coast Guard Approved Courses for Mariner Training 


(Woods Hole, Mass – March 12, 2014) – SEA/SEA Semester® is accepting registrations for training classes, open to mariners, aspiring mariners and Outdoor Educators interested in advancing their skills. These USCG approved courses are being offered to SEA Faculty, Staff and Crew as well as other interested Mariners and Outdoor Educators.

I. Wilderness First Responder (WFR) / USCG Medical Care Provider: 

This is a 7-day course offered at SEA: 

Course Fee: $850.00 
April 4 – 10, 2014 

II. Bridge Resource Management (1600 Tons) (BRM): ** 
This is a three-day course offered at SEA: 

Course fee: $550.00 
April 1 – 3, 2014 
December 9 – 11, 2014 

III. Basic Safety Training (BST): ** 
All four BST modules are scheduled over a 5 day period 
Course Fee: $950.00 
April 14 - 18, 2014 
December 15 - 19, 2014 

**To Register for BRM or BST Spring or Winter sessions: Please contact the SEA Marine Department at crewtraining at sea.edu 
Prices include housing in the cottages on the SEA campus and lunch each training day held at the SEA campus. Current SEA Faculty, Staff and Crew may inquire about tuition assistance for these trainings. 

I. Wilderness First Responder (WFR) / USCG Medical Care Provider: 
The Wilderness First Responder program is the ideal medical training for leaders in remote areas including outdoor educators, guides, military, professional search and rescue teams, researchers, and those involved in the marine environment disaster relief. The curriculum is comprehensive and practical. It includes the essential principles and skills required to assess and manage medical problems in isolated and extreme environments for days and weeks if necessary. 

This Medical Care Provider course is also approved by the USCG to satisfy the Medical First Aid training requirements of 46 CFR 12.13-1: and the competency to apply immediate first aid in the event of accident or illness on board of Section A-VI/4 and Table A-VI/4-1 of the STCW Code, as amended. 

This is a 7-day course offered at SEA: 

Course Fee: $850.00 
April 4 – 10, 2014

II. Bridge Resource Management (1600 Tons) (BRM): 

BRM provides training to mariners seeking an STCW endorsement at the management and operational (Master/Mate) levels. 

This is a three day course offered at SEA, 

Course fee: $550.00 
April 1 – 3, 2014 
December 9 – 11, 2014 


III. Basic Safety Training (BST): 

BST consists of four modules, and is designed to satisfy the basic safety training and familiarization requirements of STCW. These modules include: 

a. 12-Hour Personal Survival Techniques 
b. Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (offered at New England Maritime, Hyannis, MA) 
c. 4-Hour Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities 
d. 8 Hour First Aid & CPR 

BST modules are offered at SEA, with the exception of Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting, which is taught at New England Maritime. 

All four BST modules are scheduled over a 5 day period, 
Course Fee: $950.00 
April 14 - 18, 2014 
December 15 - 19, 2014

100% attendance is required for USCG approved courses to be eligible for a course completion certificate. 

Prices include housing in the cottages on the SEA campus and lunch each training day held at the SEA campus.
