The 300 Committee is a private, non-profit land trust dedicated to protecting and preserving natural lands for the citizens of Falmouth, Massachusetts. Founded by a small group of volunteers to commemorate the Town of Falmouth's 300th anniversary in 1986, The 300 Committee has helped permanently protect more than 2,300 acres throughout our community for conservation, recreation and water protection.

We have several exciting events coming up!

Winter & Spring Speaker Series continues...
presented by T3C & Salt Pond Areas Bird Sanctuaries
Talk #3 of 4
this Thursday, April 7, 7:00 pm
at the Falmouth Historical Society's Cultural Center
Habitat Management at Frances Crane Wildlife Management Area & Beyond
The massive land clearing effort at Crane has attracted the attention of many people in Falmouth and neighboring communities. Join us as John Scanlon, Habitat Program Leader for the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife (DFW) , discusses the habitat management and restoration work designed to benefit rare and declining
species across not only Crane's 1,200+ acres but throughout 200,000 acres of state wildlife lands. This illustrated talk will review both grassland and shrubland management for state-listed grassland birds -- grasshopper sparrow and upland sandpiper, and traditional game birds -- ring-necked pheasant, American woodcock and ruffed grouse. Learn how the grassland expansion work and the adjacent thinning of pine and oak woodlands at Crane will benefit these target bird species. John has worked for DFW for 30 years and is both a Certified Wildlife biologist through the Wildlife Society and a Certified Forester through the Society of American Foresters.

Woodcock Walk
Friday, April 22 (Earth Day & Full Moon!)
7 pm to dark
With the arrival of spring comes the annual ritual of observing the courtship display of the American Woodcock -- an experience not to be missed! At dusk, these reclusive woodland birds make their way out of the woods to an open field. The males strut, call and launch themselves into the air in a wide spiraling flight from which they whirr, twitter and zigzag back to earth. With luck a male will win a female's attention.

Park just before 7:00 pm at the Locust Street lot for the Shining Sea Bikeway (near T3C's offices), cross Woods Hole Road on the crosswalk and meet as a group by the big rock/bench at the beginning of the stretch of bike path headed toward Woods Hole.

We will walk for a few minutes down the bike path together -- starting at 7:00 -- to a spot along the path where we will be able to hear, and with luck, see, woodcocks displaying. There will be a FULL MOON, but bring flashlights just in case. Dress very warmly! Spring evenings can be quite chilly. Finish by 8:00.

Drizzle or driving rain will cancel the outing. Leader: Molly Cornell...508-540-7652.

And save the date...
Pedal to Parcels bicycling event!
