Announcing the inaugural Nantucket Climate Change Summit<https://www.ackclimatesummit.com/>
organized by the Linda Loring Nature Foundation<https://llnf.org/> and the Nantucket Conservation Foundation<https://www.nantucketconservation.org/>
September 6th, 2023 4 - 6:30 PM at Great Harbor Yacht Club, 96 Washington St., Nantucket MA

Nantucket is an island roughly 30 miles south of Cape Cod that is only accessible by ferry or air. Our Town has officially designated September as Climate Change Awareness Month, an important acknowledgment of the significant and increasing threat that climate change and rising sea levels pose to Nantucket's infrastructure and ecosystems. In the last few years, various organizations have hosted events, tours, lectures, and more during September to share information on how climate change will affect Nantucket. This year, a Summit will be held to share the collective knowledge and understanding of climate change on island.

Our community is fortunate to have several scientists, land managers, and organizations with unique expertise and knowledge specific to coastal ecosystems, positioning Nantucket as a leader in climate resiliency and adaptation. This Summit is an opportunity for our community to gain a common language around climate change status and impacts on Nantucket. Participants will also learn about climate adaptation projects underway on island.

Presentations include:
-"What Does Climate Change Mean for Nantucket in 2023", Drs. Sarah Bois and Jennifer Karberg
-“Restoring Lily Pond Park", Nantucket Islands Land Bank<https://www.nantucketlandbank.org/>
-“Planning and Managing Conservation of Open Space”, Linda Loring Nature Foundation & Nantucket Conservation Foundation
-“Hither Creek Dune Restoration”, Nantucket Conservation Foundation

Following the presentations, we will host refreshments, community conversation, and a poster viewing of projects from island groups including the Nantucket Historical Association<https://nha.org/>, Town of Nantucket Natural Resources Department<https://www.nantucket-ma.gov/130/Natural-Resources>, Envision Resilience<https://www.envisionresilience.org/>, and more.

Join us at the Great Harbor Yacht Club from 4 - 6:30 PM on September 6th for the Nantucket Climate Change Summit. The Summit is free to attend and open to all. Please register here.<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/nantucket-climate-change-summit-tickets-691913290277?aff=oddtdtcreator>

If you are interested in attending the Summit from off-island, please note that there are ferries through Hyline Cruises that would allow you to return to the mainland same-day after the Summit. Please email me directly if you have questions regarding planning a day trip to Nantucket for the Climate Change Summit.

Thank you to The Community Foundation for Nantucket<https://cfnan.org/receive/remain-nantucket-fund/>’s ReMain Nantucket Fund for generously supporting the Summit.
