The laboratory of Dr. Sally A. Moody at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) is seeking a beginning Postdoctoral Scientist to study the genetic underpinnings of Branchio-oto-renal syndrome using Xenopus and mouse. This position conducts laboratory research on an independent and collaborative basis.
Duties Include:
• Research and study of Branchio-oto-renal syndrome phenotypes using Xenopus and mouse;
• Design and evaluate experiments and develops new ideas;
• Plan and develop research methods and techniques within the framework of the project;
• Perform craniofacial histology, molecular biology & microinjections;
• Maintain accurate records of research findings and analyzes results;
• Prepare research results for publications in reports, papers, journals, books and other media;
• Attend, contribute to, and lead internal and external meetings;
• Train undergraduate students on basic laboratory operations and functions;
• Perform other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Qualified candidates will hold a Ph.D. in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
Desired Qualifications: • Ph.D. in biological or biomedical science.
• A strong record of publication including at least 1 first author peer-reviewed publication; it is preferred that this be in the field of craniofacial development.
• Experience in developmental biology, embryological manipulations, microinjection and/or electroporation, and molecular biology techniques.
• Organizational and communication skills, ability to think critically and creatively, and capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively.
