After Hours Event will Highlight Youth Mentoring Programs in Falmouth



Staff and mentors from the Falmouth Volunteers In Public Schools (VIPS) and Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of the Cape and Islands will host an after-hours event at Bucatino Restaurant and Wine Bar on Thursday, March 22nd to provide information about mentoring needs and opportunities in Falmouth. The event will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Light appetizers will be provided.



Both programs are seeking mentors for Falmouth youth in need of a mentor. While VIPS mentors are part of a school-based program, meaning the mentors meet with the child at school, the BBBS matches meet outside of school. Both programs provide training and ongoing support to mentors throughout the duration of the match. Mentors are currently needed for students of all ages.



Mentoring is rewarding! By spending one hour each week with a child in a one-on-one, trusting relationship, a mentor can change the direction that child takes in his or her life. Mentors also benefit from the relationship, and many find the interaction with a young person and the time spent in the schools to be very positive.
