Amy Gallatin and Stillwaters Bring Country Bluegrass Music to Woods Hole

The Woods Hole Folk Music Society’s 46th season will continue on March
25 with a performance by bluegrass band Amy Gallatin & Stillwaters. The
concert will take place at 7:30 PM in Community Hall, 68 Water Street,
Woods Hole. Doors open at 7:00 PM. Admission is $20 with discounts for
members, seniors and youth. Community Hall is handicapped accessible and
street parking is free after 6:00 PM.

The Amy Gallatin & Stillwaters band performs a combination of folk,
country and bluegrass music with red-hot picking and soaring harmonies.
Their music is traditional with a distinct, modern flair.

The band is comprised of Amy Gallatin on lead vocals and guitar,
baritone Roger Williams on the resophonic guitar, multi-instrumentalist
JD Williams on vocals, and Eric Levenson on bass.

The band has toured extensively across the US, Canada, Mexico and
Europe. Their recent tour of Europe included house concerts, music
clubs, theaters, country & bluegrass festivals, and they have twice
represented the United States at the European World of Bluegrass
convention in the Netherlands.

Amy Gallatin was born in Muscle Shoals, Alabama but raised in the
western US. She was inspired to learn 12-string guitar after hearing
John Denver on the Tonight Show, and began to accompany her singing with
guitar at local events. While touring New England in 1992, Ms. Gallatin
met and performed with musicians with whom she bonded deeply. She
returned to California, packed her bags, and moved to Connecticut where
she lives today. Ms. Gallatin’s singing is influenced by many of the
great blues and country singers, but also shows a strong influence of
cowboy songs from her life in the western US. She has produced eight
solo and collaborative albums. When not performing with the Stillwaters,
Gallatin performs in the all-female band “The Hot Flashes.”

Roger Willams grew up in Massachusetts singing harmony with his mother,
who sang and played guitar. He began playing the resophonic or
Dobro-style guitar -- a guitar with a raised metal resonator -- at age
13. Within a year he made his musical debut at the Hillbilly Ranch in
Boston with the Lilly Brothers and Don Stover. Since then, Mr. Williams
has toured overseas with numerous artists, performing at the prestigious
Dobro Festival in Slovakia, and has taught workshops during Bluegrass
Week at the Augusta Heritage Center in Elkins, WV.  He has recorded both
solo albums and collaborative projects with folk and bluegrass
performers of international acclaim.

JD Williams grew up in a musical family and learned to play multiple
instruments at an early age. He debuted with Stillwaters in 2005 on
mandolin, guitar and harmony vocals. His music is imbued with jazz and
blues influences, demonstrating a modern, eclectic flair. Mr. Rogers is
a graduate of the Berklee College of Music and plays with several
ensembles across New England, including the Boston-based bluegrass group
Ricky Myer and the Ricktones.

Eric Levenson played bass for the legendary band Joe Val and the New
England Bluegrass Boys, touring extensively in the US and overseas. He
currently plays with Boston City Limits and the Charles River Boys,
and anchors the weekly Bluegrass Picking Party at the Cantab Lounge in
Cambridge. He is a recipient of the Boston Bluegrass Union's Heritage
award, which honors those who have made substantial contributions to
furthering bluegrass in New England. Mr. Levenson is also known for his
work as a theatrical set and lighting designer and a scenic artist for
motion pictures; his award-winning career has included contributions to
well-known movies such as Mystic River and Good Will Hunting.

Maverick magazine says: “Amy Gallatin and Stillwaters are one of the top
acts that seamlessly blend country music and bluegrass into an acoustic
style that is refreshing and entertaining.”

The final concert of WHFMS’s 46^th season will be Apr. 8, with singer
Joe Jencks.
