Thinking of attending the AGU Fall Meeting in New Orleans this year?  Please consider submitting an abstract to ED020: Overlapping Boundaries and Needs in Acoustics Education (Session ID: 252666).

Session description: Acoustics is a multidisciplinary field of study. Applications of acoustics are found across Earth Science, Engineering, Life Science and the Arts. Because the field is broad, it suffers from a bit of an identity crisis. Since courses and degrees in acoustics may be housed across a range of departments (physics, engineering, oceanography, music, etc.) within higher education institutions, it can be difficult to attract students to the field.

Careers within the field of acoustics are vital for national security and defense and economic and environmental sectors. Where can we find connectivity within the overlap of mathematics, natural sciences (e.g., physics, chemistry, biology) and engineering? How do we work together to establish pathways for students to navigate for pursuing a degree? How do we recruit interest in the field?

This session invites examples of acoustics education programs, outreach efforts and ideas for seeking connectivity and attracting more students to the field.

Deadline for abstracts is July 30.
