Our virtual Third Tuesday Talk series continues April 21st at 7pm with an update on Sierra Club's legislative priorities as the 2025-26 session on Beacon Hill heads into its final 3 months. Featured speakers will discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly, starting with the House’s energy affordability bill. This bill includes important provisions but also would undermine affordability by cutting $1 billion from the MassSave budget and promoting nuclear power.

Going into the 2025-26 session, the top legislative priorities of Sierra Club’s Massachusetts Chapter included improving transparency, stopping utility profiteering, and protecting forested watersheds and public health. While early victories have improved transparency, several priorities remain to be addressed, and unexpected developments have created new ones.

On April 21st, Briana Kane of Cape Light Compact will describe how cuts in the MassSave budget could impact local consumers, and Eva Morgan of Sierra MA will offer updates on the Chapter’s priorities, as well as on additional bills prioritized by the Cape Cod & Islands Group. Opportunities for advocacy will also be highlighted, and time will be available for audience Q&A.

Featured Speakers
Briana Kane, Cape Light Compact: Since joining the Compact in 2008, Briana has assumed increasing responsibility for state-regulated residential energy efficiency programs and was recently appointed as deputy director, responsible for management and oversight of regulatory planning and policy. Briana received a Bachelor of Science in Resource Economics with a minor in Forestry from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst and a Master of Public Administration from Suffolk University. Briana enjoys going to the beach and spending time with her family, friends, and dogs.

Eva Morgan, Sierra Club MA: Eva is the energy organizer for Sierra Club Massachusetts. In her previous roles, she advocated for the retirement of fossil fuel peaker power plants and development of battery energy storage systems and demand response programs in New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Vermont. She has also researched and written about the climate harms and local health impacts of alternative fuels.
